Abstract

The present study will focus on leakage and its effect on an existing network Such studies focus on different points. Many methods are used to design the pipe network such as, obtaining diameters of pipeline networks etc. However little work is available concerning this subject. The previous leakage studies were bout the leakage location. There is no complete study representing the effect of leakage conditions on now characteristics. In this thesis’ a complete survey of flow characteristics will be obtained under different leakage conditions. Flow characteristics ( pressure. discharge, pipe . diameter. ) have been calculated using different mathematical models by many researches, unfortunately. the field data required to verify these models ~re few and insufficient. This study will focus on the approaches to pipe network design, specially head losses and leakage effect in an existing net work. In this study the input data of. the model was obtained from the field and the results of this model were detailed, and compared with data also obtained from field. The field work investigation means the data collected from field, This field data is used to simulate the mathematical model output. The proposed model output and collected field data are compared and verified. The verification gives an excellent agreement between the model and field results, The conclusion and recommendation are stated regarding the leakage factor which will be considered as the main item for the design updating and the maintenance of pipe networks and for predicting of new network. The thesis is composed of six chapters : In chapter 1 a general introduction of the subject and the purpose of the research is given. Chapter 2 summarizes and discusses the most commonly used method of design of pipe network including the studies of the leakage factor.
