Abstract The very low concentration of heavy metals such as : mercury, cadmium, zinc, iron, silver, lead and aluminum are considered to be toxic and harmful in the aquatic environment, thus it is necessary to increase the availability of sensitive enough analytical procedures for their accurate determination and to increase the methods for their preconcentration and separation. Considerable progress has been made in recent years in the use of polyurethane foam for extraction and preconcentration purposes. Both inorganic and organic substances can be extracted from different media. Several reviews dealing with the extraction of metals and substances by polyurethane foam have appeared. Polyurethane foam has been successfully applied to concentrate various inorganic contaminates from water. |
