Abstract

Egyptian cotton Gossypium barbadense (family Malvaceae) is one of the country’s most vital economic crops, being renown for its staple strength and grade. The cultivated area of cotton is estimated to be about two million feddans annually.
Environmental stress greatly affects plant productivity. In Egypt, where salinity and drought are predominant, the genetic improvement of stress tolerance in plants has become an urgent need.
