Abstract Animals in the Present study were inspected to point out and survey the most prevalent affections of the claws in Egypt. These animals were collected from six army dairy farms (Amria farm in Alexandria, Nobaria farm in Behira, Shobra Shehab farm in Kaliobia, Firdan farm and El tall El kebber farms in Ismaelia and Arab Awamer fram in Assuit). The obtainded data showed that out of these six dairy farms, 817 animals were met with suffering from various claw affections. These affections varied between, sole ulcer (145 cases, representing 17.7% of the total claw affections), foot rot (98 cases, representing 12%), digital dermatitis (113 cases, representing 13.9%),sand cracks (64 cases, representing 7.8%),white line disease(39 cases, representing 4.8%), laminitis (77 cases, representing 9.4%), subclinical laminitis (45 cases, representing 5.5%), heel erosions (66 cases, representing 8.1%), wounds and deep sepsis (26 cases, representing 3.2 %), claw abnormalities (135 cases, representing 16.5 %) and pedal arthritis ( 9 cases, representing 1.1%). It is clear that sole ulcer (17.7%), claw abnormalities (16.5%), digital dermatitis (13.9%) and foot rot (12 %) represents the prevalent claw affections in imported dairy cows under egyptian conditions. Types and locations of the claw affection were recorded. The examined animals aged between 2-14 years old. The surgical interventions in most cases were performed under different types of local analgesia and/or sedation. |
