Abstract

The fundamental goal of equipment management process is to determine the productivity of equipment for a given job. Although this is not necessarily a complex action, there are many motors to consider in making this decision.Insufficient management of equipment can resuh in low production and / or idle equipment; either of which can impact on project duration and cost. Therefore, it is important for contractors, construction managers, project managers and anyone directly responsible for equipment management, to be familiar with the methods leading to evaluating the equipment productivity for a given job. Simulation is presently accepted in construction project management as a formal tool for solving problems in construction. As a matter of fact, it has become more important than linear programming. The key to modeling operations and determining productivity and balance among resources is to identify processes that are repetitive at the production level Many processes are cyclic in nature and can be readily modeled using CYCLONE modeling format. The objective of this study is to provide a clear understanding for the problem of construction equipment and the inefficient operating conditions in Egypt. This will be done through studying the Egyptian operating conditions, analyzing the factors affecting productivity and determining production rate of pilling process by using Simulation system. This thesis is devoted to using the simulation technique as a tool for estimating ideal production rate for the pile equipment sector especially Continuous Flight Auger (CF A) system.Pile equipment was selected for the study because it is the major productive element in the heavy construction sector; and piles construction is a wide section of that sector. AJso, the piles sector represents the most rugged operating conditions for equipment in the construction industry. Therefore, this equipment, accurately, measures the share of the operator efficiency and the downtime if there is a production loss. Many researchers studied all kinds of productivity such as (equipment, labors) productivity. But in this thesis data collected before of many previously selected pilling projects will be used to find a general equation to give equipment performance ratio of any new pilling project. This will depend on finding variables that affect productivity by using statistics software, and the designing a model for these processes to simulate certain new pilling project by using simulation software to forecast ideal number of piles per day (ideal production rate). Finally actual production rate and actual total time to complete this new pilling project will be forecasted.
