Abstract

In this thesis, the relationship between the rainfall and runoff based on catchment parameters, water losses, geo-hydrologic features and climatic characteristics for Wadi Sudr has been studied.
The rock types that govern the runoff rate and routing vary between fractured carbonate rocks in the upstream, where a number of springs are issuing, and loose deposits in the wadi trunk and its delta, where shallow wells are dug.
Sixteen sub-catchments are detected within the whole basin, where the morphometric parameters were analyzed for the determination of catchment characteristics.
The storm characteristic curves, as well as the rainfall frequency, probability of exceedence, and return period have been analyzed and assessed. The study has indicated a variety in the depth of storm events during the last decade between 14.6 mm (Feb.99) and 47 mm (March 91).
The hydrologic abstraction rates were calculated through the field experiments of eight infiltration tests in representative sites. The effect of surface water upon the soil cover has been calculated.
