Abstract

Self-compacted concrete (SCC) and fiber reinforced polymer (FRP0 are the most promising new construction materials. The aim of this investigation is to experimentally examine the behavior of the self compacted reinforced concrete beams strengthened with glass fiber reinforced polymers (GFRP). The investigation examines also the behavior of the 9scc0 RC beams strengthened with/without (GFRP) and then exposed to sulfate attack and fie. The models are classified into seven groups. Each group contains three beams with different reinforcement ratio. The first group contains the control beams strengthened in flexure and shear, the fourth group contains beams with out strengthening and exposed to sulfate attack. The fifth group contains beams strengthen in flexure and shear, and exposed to sulfate attack, the sixth group contains beans without strengthened and exposure to fire, the seventh group contains beams strengthened in flexure and sheer and exposed to fie.
The group of the tested beams are compared through type of strengthening, and type of exposure, an the test results are compared through deflections, rotations, first cracking loads, ultimate loads and cracking patterns. A nonlinear computer program based on 2D finite element technique was extended to study the behavior of the tested beams.
Recommendations for practical applications were summarized and suggestions for future research works in the field of reinforced (SCC) strengthened with (FRP) were presented.
