Abstract The present study was done to study the progesterone variations in buffalo’s milk and blood during the postpartum period by using the enzyme immunoassay and radioimmunoassay methods. 54 Egyptian buffalo—cows of 5—10 years old belonging to the faculty of agriculture, Alexandria University, were used in this study. All animals were kept under the same conditions during the period of study. All animals under investigation showed normal parturition and the period of puerperium was without any complications. The enzyme immunoassay metliod used to determine the progesterone concentration in whole milk, milk fat and extracted serum of buffaloes postpartum, while the lioimmunoassay method was used to estimate the progester— ne values in both whole milk and blood plasma of buffaloes postpartum. The standard curve for progesterone determination was nade to determine the progesterone concentration in the whole 13lilk, milk fat and extracted serum. The radioimmunoassay determination in ole milk and Ibood plasma used as a reference methods, where level of n.prog./ml milk is indicating an endocrinological corpus Luteum activation and level of > 1 ng/ml blood plasma is idicating n active corpus luteum. |
