Abstract Medulloblastoma is the commonest PNET originating in the brain, usually arising from the fourth ventricle between brain stem and cerebellum. Inspite of marked advances in the fields of diagnosis and therapy, the exact cell of origin of medulloblastoma i.e. medulloblast is not yet identified. It is currently thought that medulloblastoma arises from cerebellar stem cells with various potentials of differentiation. It is the commonest malignant brain tumour in children comprising 14.5% of newly diagnosed cases. The incidence of childhood medulloblastoma is higher in males (62%) than in female, (38%). In adults, medulloblastoma is rare comprising less than 2% of CNS malignancies. |
