Abstract

The in vitro maturation of farm animals’ oocytes is the first and most critical step towards a successful in vitro embryo production. This process is mainly affected by some factors like: the presence of protein additives and hormones added to the culture media. On the other hand, the success of IVM in livestock species depends on the quality and quantity of oocytes recovered per ovary of the slaughtered animals. Seasonal effect has an important consideration in this respect. For this purpose three experiments were carried out: Experiment (1): was designed to study the seasonal effect on the quantity and quality of sheep oocytes. Experiment (2): was to study the effect of adding three different protein supplements; ovine amniotic fluid (AF), fetal bovine serum (FBS) and sheep serum (SS), individually to TCM-199 medium on in vitro maturation of sheep oocytes.
