Abstract People of all ages are now spending more time participating in sports, both competitive and recreational. This increase in participation has been accompanied by increase number of musculoskeletal injuries specially the major joints of the lower limb. The large joints of the lower limb share a considerable ratio of the musculoskeletal injuries. Conventional radiographic techniques demonstrate the osseous structure of the joint, but provide only limited evaluation of the soft tissue anatomy. With the magnetic resonance imaging, it is now possible to accurately assess the integrity of the ligaments, tendons, muscles & myotendinious junctions and to detect the pathological changes in these tissues. |
