Abstract

The work carried out in this thesis • is basically concerned with the irrigation efficiency where the water use efficiency in the world and especially in Egypt s bad. It is interested in the study of the irrigation efficiency in the public canal system, besides the Iosses on the field . there are the losses in the conveyance and distribution systems vhich we of deciding importance upon the overall efficiency One of the main targets of this work is to determine the losses of water in the public canal system end study the (actors which depend upon it these losses These factors have been classified into three main factors which are technical factors, operational factors, and human factors. The importance of each factor to reduce the water losses and how to calculate it have been studied, besides of that the different types of irrigation efficiencies have been classified. A new mathematical modeling to calculate the irrigation efficiency and the water losses through the public canal system due to the last three mentioned factors have been suggested The validity of the suggested model is clearly demonstrated by computer FORTRAN program and then verified by a data for a project in California in the U.S.A published in the FAO irrigation and Drainage Paper, Rom l98. The results have bcrn compared with the corresponding published results and confirmed good agreement The validity model have been applied to study and calculate the irrigation efficiency end wait, losses for the project of bahr El-Saidi in Egypt Significant application results have been obtained and discussed ‘
