Abstract

Data for the present investigation were obtained from 1571 lactation records of 436 cows during the years from 1977—1984, at two farms, Shobra Shehab farm near Cairo and Raas El—Soda farm in Alexandria, belonging to the Ministry of Defense. The data were analyzed statistically and the results showed that:
1. Relatively higher averages were obtained in the present study in total milk yield and 305—days milk yield (3529—3999 Kgs and 3083—3499 Kgs, respectively) as compared to previous reports on the performance of Priesian cattle in Egyptian governmental farms (2303— 2866 Kgs and 1356-2847 Kge for total and 305—days milk yield respectively). This may be attributed to probable differences in the geneUc make up of imported cows, as well as to differences in managerial and feeding conditions.
2. All milk production traits (initial, peak, 120—days,
305—days and total milk yield, as well as persistency) were significantly higher in Shobra Shehab farm than in Raas El—Soda farm. This may also be due to differences in the genetic makeup of the populations from which the importations were made and may also be due to differences in managerial and climatic conditions.
