Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the problems of teaching / learning english writing skills for the first year secondary school students in Saudi Arabia. Initially, it is partly an analytical. Basically, it gives a detailed description of the status of EFL writing in the secondary schools.Beneficially, through the use of multiple-data-colliction methods, that is, observation of students’ performance in english writing, interviewing with EFL teachers and curriculum designers, and official document collection, a better understanding of the english language education system and status of TEFL in Saudi Arabia was achieved. The aim of the study is to examine the effect of the whole language approach in developing english writing skills for the first year secondary school students, as a targeted level, in Saudi Arabia. Accordingly, it is an attempt to provide EFL teachers and curriculum designers with a new insight for TEFL through supporting them with the whole language philosophy in order to contribute to the development of their students’ performance and achievment. |
