Abstract

Portland cement concrete has an open pore structure and, therefore, is permeable to water and deicing salts.
The aim of this investigation is to furnish the route for the basic knowledge needed to produce new composite materials having prescribed mechanical, physical and chemical properties and offering economic advantages. Synthetic PF liquid resin produced from Salomil companey in Ameriya. as well as different types of highly ortho-substituted novolacs which were prepared in alkaline medium using both NaOH and anhydrous Naa-SQs, were used in this research. Identification of chemical and mineralogical composition of locallized Portland cement was achieved using Bogue method as well as X-ray diffraction analysis. Infrared analysis for different types of PF resins was reported.
The addition of PF resin solution during mixing was found to be more suitable than thermal technique of polymerization. It was noticed that the PF resin acts as a water reducing agent with Portland cement . Also the addition of highly ortho substituted novolac liquid resin catalysed by anhydrous NazSQs speeds the beginning of setting by a factor 2 and the water absorption decreases of as much as 98%.
