Abstract

In the combatment of pollution we must first prevent its sources in all its forms with an integrated action. Then we must try to combat the existing pollutants so as to reach minimal impact levels. This needs a comprehensive plan of action based on all legislative, economical, financial and administrative levels. Dealing with the tangible sources of pollution could be achieved easily but when it comes to the intangible sources of pollution they are difficult to determine and to distinguish. Despite the fact that these sources of pollution could affect cultural even moral principles, from the communal levels to personal levels, nevertheless they are still quite neglected.
Visual and aesthetic pollution affects behavior and action especially when intangible. After all, the environment is broadly the relationship between man and his physical, psychological surroundings. from reviewing currently applied strategies in Alexandria concerning visual and aesthetic pollution we find out that although intentions are right still they only involve building heights or maintenance of specific buildings but visual and aesthetic pollution involves many other things such as contextual compatibility, landscape elements, vegetation and required open space. They include a percentage of complexity, contradiction, order, spaciousness and many other factors which are required in the urban environment. Combatment shouldn’t just take a legislative form which needs a comprehensive plan for long intervals of time, but It requires people’s commitment which comes from their sense of belonging. Legislative forms are on track but they require a lot of development and support.
Legislative support could be achieved by involving all ministries In the comprehensive plan. As for people’s involvement It could be achieved through different information media and educational programs.
