Abstract

This research identifies the elements affecting on the ventilation of open spaces. and the relationship with city planning, drawn from whereof the researchers discussed in the field of the climatic studies and aero-dynamic, which can be applied on any open spaces, and reach to overlapping relations between these elements; to help us solving the planning problems, and planning the new communities for good ventilation, then apply it on two sectors of Alexandria city, to establish a new communities which apply the thoughts of the sustainable development by the good ventilation of its open spaces and the indoor spaces for the surrounding buildings of this spaces and the same spaces of Egypt.
‎The research iDcI1Idc!I two JDaia D8I1s :
‎ . 1- The theoretical study for the ventilation of open spaces, the measurement equipments,
‎and the applied examples in the world.
‎ 2- An empirical study for specimens from the sectors of Alexandria city, and assumed
‎specimens for the open spaces of cities.
‎Before the main parts of the research, there are an introduction to explain the problem which the research try to solve it, the goals of the research, the research’s field, the sequences of the research’s contents, and the skeleton of the research.
‎1- Part One : ( neoretical’s study for the VelltiIatioD of 0De8 1ID8CCII) :
‎It contains two chapters discuss the theoretical approach of the study, the first chapter begin explaining the big umbrella of environmental studies which called in this time the sustainable development, it contains many concepts such as renewable energy, and energy conservation, which can be helpful to understand the importance of the research’s themes, then the chapter discuss’ the elements affecting on the aero-dynamic’ behavior in open spaces by explaining the elements relate to the city site, and the elements relate to the city planning.
‎It also discuss’ the combined effects and relative importance of plan for wind and sun, and explain the theories of aero-dynamic’ causes and behaviors, the relationship between wind velocity and the human action at outdoor and indoor spaces, and the phenomena which relate to tbe air flow in open spaces such as the heat island, and pollution.
‎The second chapter study’s the measurement equipments and its applications to ventilate open spaces by explaining the newest facilities for the climatic and aero-dynamic laboratories 8Dd fields, it explains also the computer simulation programs for the climatic studies and aero¬’c, then it discuss’ the applications for aero-dynamic in Egypt and surrounding countries,
‎apply the results of this applications on the empirical part of the research .
‎• ellS from the seeton of AleuDdria •
‎This part is the empirical study of the research, it contains three chapters, the first one third of research) illustrates the skeleton of the empirical study in this part by explain the y’s plan and goals, and definite the field and theoretical specimens, and explain the ent equipment, and the computer program which will be used in the field survey and lied study.
‎The second chapter (forth of research) illustrates the field study in two sectors of exandria city, which have be chosen due to the difference elements affecting the air flow, such the huge concrete wall at the ”Cornish” street in «EI-Mandara”, and the huge building of ”San o hotel”. The third chapter (fifth of research) illustrates the empirical study for four assumed specimens of the buildings pattern in Alexandria city, such as cull-de suck, car square, pedestrian space, and net spaces, then it explain the results of the computer simulation for the air-flow around the four specimens when we change the velocity, direction, the relative between the. depth of space and the height of buildings, building densities, building profile, and tree-planting.
‎The research reaches the stage of the extraction of conclusions and recommendations, it analyzes the general results of the theoretical study at part one, then analyzes the results of the empirical studies at part two, to reach to simple applied tables which can help researchers and
‎planners to plan open spaces.
‎These tables illustrate the relationship between air velocity in open spaces, building
‎pattern, direction, depth of space, height of buildings, building densities, building profile, and tree-planting, to help planner and designer to reach the best plan and design for the difference activities at open spaces such as walking, short - long setting in parks, squares, restaurants,
‎cafeterias, and open theaters.
‎These tables also help planner and designer for the best plan and design of indoor
‎ventilation of the SUIIOunding buildings, and when it can be suitable for the residential uses if the air-flow inter to the indoor spaces with its full velocity in open space.
‎After conclusions the research explain the general recommendations, and the difference
‎relationships which have been explained in conclusions part to reach to special recommendations which can treat the negative effects in the field specimens, and help for planning new good
‎ventilation spaces.
‎This part also illustrate the new scientific addition, which the research reach to it, and the
‎further research which can be complementary with the research to establish a scientific platform
‎for the aero-dynamic researches of the open spaces.
‎4- AnneDdices :
‎It contains seven appendices which are the complementary part of the research data, such as the geomorphologic and climatic parameters of Alexandria city to complement with chapter three, the detailed results of the empirical specimens to complement with chapter four and five, the air flow contours of computer simulation for the empirical specimens to complement with chapter four and five, and detailed analyzing for the result’s tables to complement with the
‎conclusions and recommendations of the research.
