Abstract Epidemiological evidence suggests that hypertensive patients with LVH are at increased risk of all manifestations of CAD. Recent interest focused on symptom-free hypertensive patients with LVH, since SMI, perse, comprises an increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity & mortality. So the aim of our study is to assess the prevalence of silent myocardial ischemia in hypertensive patients with LVH. The present study included sixty hypertensive patients with LVH of mean age 51+5 years without manifest CAD. There were 52 males and 8 females. Thirty four patients (56.6%) were smokers. All our patients were hypertensive for a duration ranged between 1 to 15 years (mean duration was 5.7+3.5 years). All of them had echocardiographically detected left ventricular hypertrophy. |
