Abstract

Vascular access is a very important aspect of chronic haemodyalysis and it was initially obtained by cut down on major arteries. Internal AVF was first created in 1996 and remains the best available access for haemodialysis. In 1966, central venous catheters have been in wide use as temporary or long-term vascular access in haemodialysis. Vascular access mal function remains a major cause for hospitalization of patients with CRF.
The present study was carried on 20 patients with CRF in need for vascular access for haemodialysis, their age ranged from 6 to 59 years.
The present study was performed to study the jugular vein catheterization as regard the complications and management.
All the patients in the present study were subjected to the following:
• Meticulous history taking.
• Thorough clinical examination.
• Laboratory investigations.
• Radiological investigations.
• Jugular vein catheterization for haemodialysis.
All these patients were under observation for 3 months post operatively to detect early complications. Variable causes of renal failure were recorded, the commonest was diabetic nephropathy (25%). The catheters were inserted 22 times in 20 patients, 16 times in.
