Abstract This study included 140 subjects subdivided into 22 healthy control and 118 anemic patients, further subdivision into 3 groups. The results revealed that patients suffering from anemia associated with chronic disease had the lowest erythropoietin values in comparison with iron deficiency anemia. Patients with multiple myeloma had the most blunted erythropoietic response to the degree of anemia followed by the lymphoma group and leukemia group. The blunted erythropoietic response observed in cancer patients was more evident in patients with cancer breast than patients with gastrointestinal malignancy. (Author / FT). |
