Abstract In a trial to find the common leading causes of CRF in Egypt, this study was done, which included 549 patients with CRF on regular hemodialysis from various dialysis centers. The leading causes of CRF were hypertensive kidney disease (24.6%), unknown etiology (15.3%), diabetic nephropathy (13.7%), chronic glomerulonephritis (13.7%), bilharzial obstructive uropathy (8.6%), chronic pyelonephritis (8.4%), polycystic kidney disease (6%), obstructive uropathy (2.9%), gouty nephropathy (2.9%), toxemia of pregnancy (1.8%), SLE (1.3%), and analgesic nephropathy (0.9%).
