Abstract This study was carried out to investigate the relation of (Se) level and (GSHPX) activity in the blood of acute myocardial infarction patients and risk of death from the attack. There was a significant difference between selenium level in cases which was lower than the control. Glutathione peroxidase activity showed no significant difference. There was no significant difference of either selenium level or glutathione levels between cases who died or patients who survived during the acute stage of the attack. There were no significant difference of either selenium level or glutathione peroxidase levels in diabetics and non diabetics, smokers and non smokers, hypertriglyceridemic or hypercholest-rolemic patients and patients with normal trilycerides and cholesterol level.
