Abstract This study comprised 60 non-smoker male subjects aged 30-50 years (40 patients who were HP positive and 20 controls who were HP negative). Multiple antral biopsies were taken and fixed immediately by formal saline, processed and stained. The results showed highly significant elevation of plasma PAI-1 in HP positive patients compared with controls causing impaired fibrinolysis in HP positive patients. Plasma fibrinogen levels were not elevated in HP positive patients. The results suggest a strong correlation between HP and elevated plasma PAI-1 levels only which predicts coronary heart disease.
