Abstract
There was a highly significant difference in serum and asacitic fluid transferrin levels between cirrhotic patients with sterile ascites and those with SBP. A positive correlation was found between serum transferrin and asacitic fluid transferrin and between asacitic fluid transferrin and asacitic fluid total protein. A positive correlation was found also between serum transferrin and serum albumin. A negative correlation was found between serum transferrin and serum total bilirubin and prothrombin time.
