Abstract Epilepsy are among the most common and potentially life-threatening events in children. The possible involvement of trace elements in the convulsive disorders has been given more attention in the recent years. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the state of copper & ceruloplasmin in patients with idiopathic epilepsy and to evaluate the effect of antiepileptic monotherapy on the levels of these trace elements. Our study included 30 children newly diagnosed as idiopathic epilepsy attending the specialized Paediatric Neurology Clinic, at the Paediatric Hospital, Ain Shams University. They were 18 males and 12 females . Their ages ranged from 2 to 15 years old. They were subdivided into two subgroups: 15 patients received CBZ and 15 patients received VPA. Also 30 healthy children matching the patients in their age, sex and weight were included as a control group. They were free from any neurological or systemic disorders. |
