Abstract

In this investigation , one thousand, seven hundred and thirty seven chicks of different breeds, with an average age 1-21 days-old either freshly dead or diseased were collected from some localities at Sharkia Governorate. These chicks were subjected to clinical examination; post mortem examination and isolation trials of PT salmonellae.
The examined chicks showed clinical signs in the form of depression, huddling together, closed eyes, droopy wings, ruffled feathers, reduction of feed intake, increased water consumption, profuse watery diarrhea soiled vent and vent feathers. Meanwhile, the post mortem examination of collected birds revealed gross lesions in the form of severe enteritis, cheesy cecal cores, congestion and enlargement of liver and spleen, unabsorbed yolk sac. The affected liver revealed either hemorrhagic streaks or pin- point white necrotic foci and kidney enlarged and congested.
Twenty -one salmonella isolates were isolated during this study, with an incidence 1.2%. Day-old, Baladi breed examined chicks showed the highest incidence of isolation 8 salmonellae isolates. The isolation percentage from different organs were 33.33%; 23.80%; 19.04%; 14.28%; 4.76% and 4.76% from yolk sac ; gall bladder ; liver; intestine ; hear blood and spleen, respectively.
