Although astigmatic correction by LASIK has been reported since the early 1990s, yet, considerable differences in opinions as well as wide controversies in surgical techniques, patterns and nomograms still exist up till now.
The aim of our study was to assess the correction of astigmatism by laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) using the Nidek EC5000 excimer laser as well as establishing a nomogram for its use, by comparing the outcome of the correction based on the refractive astigmatism to that based on the topographic astigmatism.
The study was carried out on 2 groups of patients:
• Group I:
15 eyes have undergone astigmatic correction by LASIK for their manifest refractive error.
• Group IT:
15 eyes have undergone astigmatic correction by LASIK based on data revealed by corneal topography.
