Abstract Intrathoracic stomach replacement of the esophagus is one of the most common procedure for management of cancer esophagus. The purpose of this work is to assess the function of the intrathoracic stomach after vagotomy and alteration in its anatomical position. This study was conducted on ten patients with esophageal carcinoma together with ten healthy persons were included as a control group. F.S.G. was estimated by radioimmunoassay and R.F.A. was measured by HC1 titration. There was hyperacidity among esophageal carcinoma patients preoperatively which show marked reduction in the early postoperative period. Three months after esophagogastrectomy it shows fair acid secretion. Preoperative F.S.G. level was within normal range, one month after surgery there was hypergastrinaemia which return back to normal values three months postoperatively. |
