Abstract

This study was designed to investigate changes in serum leptinlevels and serum lipids in obese and normal children of both sexes haveage ranged between 11 - 13 years.
The aim of this work is to investigate leptin level in the serum ofobese children and its correlation to body fat and investigate whethericptin concentrations vary with sex and/or growth and development.
The subjects of this study comprised sixty-two children agedbetween 11-13 years, there were divided into two groups, the first groupinclude 23 obese male child and 18 control male child. The second groupincludes 10 obese female child and 11 control female child.
The obese children were free from other diseases such ashypertension, nephritis, nephortic syndrome or cushing’s syndrome.
All the studied cases were subjected to the followings:
1-Full history taking.
2-Height, weight and BMI were measured.
3-Systolic and diastolic blood pressures
4-Routine lipid profile.
5- Serum leptin: by immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) technique. Results of this study showed that:
Serum leptin level showed a high significant statistical rise in obese inrelation to control groups (P<0.01). Also serum leptin wassignificantly higher in obese males compared to control males(P<0.01) as well as leptin was significantly higher in obese femalescompared to control females (P<0.01).
