Abstract
This study was carried out at chest department Zagazig Universityhospital, Zagazig Chest Hospital, and Clinical Pathology Department,Zagazig University hospital in the period from September 2001 to October2002. Seventy nine patients were included in this study. They wereclassified into 3 groups.
Group I: Included 52 patients suspect to have pulmonary tuberculosis onthe basis of:
1-Clinical presentation.
2-Radiological features.3- Laboratory investigation.
Group II: Included 12 patients having pleural effusion suspected to be oftuberculous etiology on the basis of:
* Clinical and laboratory data.
Group III (Control group): Included 15 patients having non specificbacterial pnemonia.
All subjects were submitted to the following:
1- Full medical history taking:
a-personal history.
b-History of present illness.
c-Past history.
d-Family history.
2- Full clinical examination: general and local (chest examination).
3-Radiological evaluation: plain CXR (PA and lateral views) for allpatients.
4-Tuberculin skin test (Mantoux technique).
5-Routine laboratory investigations (CBC, ESR, blood sugar, liver andkidney function).
6-Pathological evaluation for group II: diagnostic thoracocentesis wasdone using large bone needle.
