Abstract The occurrence of CF-antibodies, SN-antibodies against FMD V. Type 01’ /2/72-Egypt and VIA-antibodies,in serum samples collected from different species of farm animals in Sharkia province indicate FMD to be wide spread. As vaccin ation is limitted only to cattle and hi ffaloes populations at governmental farms, The antibodies in sheep, camels and cattle from private farms have been developed by nature exposure of these animals to the field strain of virus. The Virus Infections Associated (VIA) Antigen test proved to be the most useful in detection of infec- tion, although VIA negative animals also had ser um-rieut ra hz ing antibodies. 2- The survival time of FMDV strain 01/2/72-Egypt in the faeces soil, and sewage has been studied daily for periods upto 8 days. a-Infected faeces kept inside doors (at room temp.) lost nearly its virus content within 7 days from the time of . The remaining infective titre after 4 days p. i. were 1 and 0.75 10glO TCID50/ml. for those samples kept inside and outside doors respectively. c- In sewage, the strain 01/2/72-Egypt survived for 4 days |
