Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of balloon dilatation of the congenital aortic valve stenosis in paediatric age group. A follow up study will be done for six months to assess the outcome of balloon dilatation and its influence in left ventricular functions.
Conclusions and recommendations:
1- Balloon aortic valvuloplasty is safe and effective procedure.
2- It should be tried in every patient irrespective to valve morphology.
3- Aortic incompetence is a well known and serious complicating following both intervention and surgery (irrespective to B/A).
4- This study has as well demonstrated the accuracy of Doppler studies in pre catheterization selection and post catch evaluation and non invasive follow-up.
5- The balloon/ annulus ratio (B/A) should not exceed 1.
6- Approaches other than the femoral artery should be tried e.g. carotid artery.
7- Careful attention to the proper selection of cases, to the details of the technique should be implicated.
8- Long term follow-up in larger number of patients is needed to evaluate the incidence of restenosis.
