Abstract The study showed the following: we mentioned some of them: 1- Most of the cases were from rural areas, illiterate, in the age group 20-29 years, with only 23% of them above the age of 35 years. Most of the did not receive antenatal care. 2- Thirty percent of cases were primigravidae, and 27% were grandmultigravidas. 3- About 50% of cases nursed their last live birth for a period of 9-20 months, and breast feeding resulted in effective spacing of pregnancy only when practiced for one year or more. 4- The commonest antepartum complications were as follows: a- Antepartum haemorrhage in 5.77% of cases. b- Hypertensive disorders in 8.87% of the cases, the commonest type was pre-eclampsia. c- Rheumatic heart disease in 1.4% of the cases. d- Diabetes mellitus in 0.53% of the cases. e- Contracted pelvis in 3.2% of the cases. f- I.U.F.D. in 0.75% of the cases. All the antepartum complications were more common in parous when except for the hypertensive disorders, which were more common in primigravidas. 5- Most of the cases delivered after the thirty seventh week of pregnancy, 13% only delivered before this. 6- Malpresentations and/ or malpositions were diagnosed in 36% of the subjects: a- Breech presentation in 8% of cases. b- Occipitoposterior position in 22.3%. c- Face & brow presentation in 2.3%. d- Transverse lie in 2% of cases. e- Complex presentations in 1.4%. |
