Abstract

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a wide spread, though often underestimated problem. It can be considered as one of the major medical problems. Approximately 0.5% of USA and UK population have CVI with a hazardous impact on patient moral and financial aspect of life and with an estimated loss of million work days per year..
Afflicted patients have a severely impaired quality of life. Nearly 70% experience some types of negative emotional impact, including feelings of anger, depression, isolation, and diminished self-image. Eighty percent experience a decrease in mobility..
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a common clinical problem in which venous return is impaired leading to sustained venous hypertension which may manifest in many mays including the development of varicose veins, oedema, skin pigmentation and ulcerations.(’)
CVI may be due to deep vein insufficiency or due to superficial vein insufficiency..$)
Perforator incompetence which is caused by primary valvular incompetence or by previous deep venous thrombosis contributes to ambulatory venous hypertension and development of chronic venous disease..
