Abstract
The present study was conducted at the rabbit farm belonging to the
Department of Animal Wealth Development, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
Zagazig University, through the period from April 2006 to April 2007.
The experimental flock composed of four rabbit breeds, namely New Zealand
White, Californian, V -Line and El-Gabali. The first two breeds obtained from San-El-
Hagar Agricultural company farm, Sharkiya Governorate, Egypt. The third one
obtained from Vvl.ine stock of Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University origin,
while El-Gabali breed obtained from Faculty of Agriculture, Moshtohor, Banha
University.
The main objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of purebreds
versus crossbreds, in addition to the effect of sex on productive traits including (body
weight, relative growth rate and average daily gain), as well as carcass traits
including (slaughter weight, dressing percentage, chilled, hot carcass weight, and
organs percentage, carcass cuts including forepart, intermediate part and hind part), in
addition to blood biochemical parameters (total protein, Albumin, Globulin, AI G
ratio, cholesterol and total lipids). Also, estimation of heterosis for crossbreds and
reciprocal crossbreds as well as, combining ability for previously mentioned traits.
Reproductive traits of doe including (doe weight at first mating, number of services
per conception, conception rate percentage, kindling rate percentage, kindling
interval, gestation length, lit!er size at birth, litter birth weight, born alive, born dead
and litter size at weaning).
This study revealed the following main outcomes:
•New Zealand white showed significant (p < 0.05) higher weaning weight (669.50 g) in comparing with Californian (598.61 g) and V-Line (440.50 g). Gabali rabbit
