Abstract

The design of oncology hospitals O.H.s has many complex and multifaceted decisions. Each decision has a different effect on the environment.
In this search, the interest is to design a methodology to measure the environmental performance E.P. for the design of any oncology hospital O.H.
The search interests in O.H.s, because it is considered the most important and critical type of hospitals’ types because of the danger of their specification and the multitude of treatments’ types in them. It also interests in ”assessment of environmental performance” as apart of Environmental performance evaluation E.P .E. Including E.P .E. advantages , focus objectives and applicability.
This methodology which was mentioned before depending on a number of environmental parameters which consist of site Planning, aesthetic standards, land scope design, lighting & ventilation systems, natural temperature control, acoustic control, radiation protection in radiotherapy design, finishing Materials & furniture and economic and energy efficiency aspects.
Aims and Objectives
This research studies O.H.s within applying the environmental parameters used in the assessment of E.P.
The aim of this research is to design the methodology used in the assessment of the E.P. for the design ofO.H.s.
The research pursues to achieve the following detailed objectives:
• Explaining the Assessment ofE.P. and the activities of the O.H.s.
• Studying the environmental parameters which will be suitable for this kind of projects.
• The methodology used in the Assessment ofE.P. For the design ofO.H.s.
Methodology
This study depends on the analytical methodology in the studying of the three parts.
This part is a collection of definitions, relationships and database, which define the needs of E.P. & a.H.
It consists of three chapters:
• Chapter 1.1 : Assessment of environmental performance.
The first chapter shows the need for ”assessment of environmental performance” as apart of Environmental performance evaluation (EPE). It includes the assessment definition, its steps environmental performance definition and (EPE) advantages, focus objectives and applicability.
• Chapter 1.2 : Oncology Hospitals.
The second chapter defines Oncology Hospitals by defining hospitals , their classification, components and by defining oncology and explaining the patient’s psychological factors, functions and the issues of oncology hospitals.
• Chapter 1.3 : Radiotherapy.
The Third chapter shows the importance of radiotherapy, its uses, services, complications design principles, types of radiotherapies and their requirements.
Part Two: The Environmental parameters used in the Assessment of Environmental Performance for the design of Oncology Hospitals.
This part is studying the specific list of environmental parameters which will be used in the Assessment of EP. for the design of D.H.s
It consists of nine chapters:
• Chapter 2.1 : Site Planning ofO.B.s.
• Chapter 2.2: Aesthetic standards & Land scope design of O.H.
• Chapter 2.3: Lighting Systems in O.H. buildings.
• Chapter 2.4: Ventilation Systems in O.H. buildings.
• Chapter 2.5: Natural Temperature Control in O.H. buildings.
• Chapter 2.6: Acoustic Control in O.H. buildings.
• Chapter 2.7: Radiation protection in Radiotherapy design
• Chapter 2.8: Finishing Materials & Furniture in O.B. buildings.
• Chapter 2.9: Economic and energy efficiency aspects in O.H. buildings.
Part 3: Comparative and analytical Studies.
The search’s recommendations appeared in the design of the checklist methodology for The Environmental parameters used in the Assessment of Environmental Performance EP. For the design of O.H.s which was studied before in part two.
The third part used this methodology in analyzing a number of D.H.s projects and comparing between them.
Results & recommendations.
At the end of the research, both the results from the application studies and the researcher’s recommendations for achieving better EP. In the design of D.H.s. is achieved .
