Abstract It is well documented that derivatives of quinazolin-4(3H)-one alone or fused with other heterocycles possess a broad spectrum of biological activity especially anti-inflammatory activity. Based on the above-mentioned information, a series of new quinazolin4(3H)-ones bearing various heterocyclic moieties were synthesized in this thesis. Selected members of these compounds were screened for their anti- inflammatory activity. The present thesis is subdivided into the following chapters: Chapter I: Introduction:This chapter covers a brief survey on the recent researches on biologically active quinazolin-4(3H)-ones possessing anti-microbial, anticonvulsant, anti-histaminic, hypoglycemic, cardiovascular, anthelmintic, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities. Chapter II : Research Objectives:It deals with the rationale upon which the target compounds have been designed. Chapter III : Discussion:In this part, the basic concepts of various methods adopted for the synthesis of the designed compounds are presented. |
