Abstract
In the Arab Republic of Egypt, potato (Solanum
tuberosum, L.) occupies an important pos s i tij on among
vegetable crops for home consumption as well as for ex-
port trade. ClimatiC and sOil factors play an important
role in determination potatoes production regions. Accor-
ding to that and du e to the enormously increased populat-
ion of Egypt, studies on such crops should be expected to
be required particularly at the new cultivated areas one
of which is Ismailia whose sOils are of sandy nature.
Several problems are usually encountered in that area;
such problems are phYSical, chemical or biological all being
interrelated to each other. So nitrogen, potaSSium ferti-
lizers and plant spaCing are very important factors control-
ling potato growth.
