Abstract
Hypomagnesemia occurs in 25-38% of patients with type 2 diabetes.Several studies have suggested an assocation between magnesium depletion and insulin resistance and/or reduction of insulin action.Chronic magnesium supplementation is considered to be beneficial in treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes, improving glycemic control and preventing the development of chronic complications.
The work was carried out on 40 uncontrolled type 2 diabetic patients .
Patients were classified into 2 groups:
Group I : 20 patients who received placebo
Group II : 20 patients who received 3660 mg magnesium citrate per day.
