Abstract

GRANULOCYTE COLONY STIMULATING FACTOR from the above results and discussion, we can conclude that:-
G-05F level is elevated mainly as a result of infection not due to the presence of risk factors of infection.
G-05F is correlated positively with CRP, and negatively with neutropenia & thrombocytopenia.
G-05F had high sensitivity and specificity as a test for diagnosis of neonatal bacterial sepsis.
On these bases we recommend to:-
1.Use peripheral venous blood samples of the newborn
not cord blood (since that kind of sample results are influenced by maternal factors).
2.Create central lab serving many hospitals so the G-
05F run could be carried out on large number of cases which diminishes the cost.
3.Assay the G-05F level as early as possible whenever neonatal sepsis is suspected, seizing the chance of rapid diagnosis instead of waiting the CRP’or blood culture results.
4.Under-take further studies during recovery phase to evaluate the G-05F as a prognostic test.
