Abstract

The effect of antioxidants on chicken administered iron over dose and/or cadmium, induced free radicals was studied in two experimental designs, the first experiment for iron and the second experiment for cadmium. Iron over dose and/or sublethal dose of cadmium induced oxidative stress through decreasing erythrocytic CAT, SOD and GSH contents in RBCs, hepatic and renal tissues. They also induced significant alteration on lipid peroxidation as evidenced by increased serum, hepatic and renal MDA. As well as they induced hepatic and renal damage, revealed by increased serum creatinine, uric acid and AST. Using of Vit.E plus Se alone improved oxidative stress produced by iron over load and/or cadmium. But using of combination of Vit.E plus Se and Vit.C, act synergistically, ameliorated oxidative stress. While using Vit.C alone is unable to ameliorate oxidative stress in iron load, however, it reduced oxidative stress in case of cadmium toxicity.
