Abstract The effects of chronic administration (6 weeks) of the two drugs under investigation either separately or in combination on the blood glucose level (BGL), liver glycogen contents, serum lipids profile (cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL) as well as histopathological studies were evaluated. Besides, second set of experiments were designed to investigate their effects on the oxidative stress parameters (malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity), serum nitric oxide (NO) level and C-reactive protein (CRP) titer. Results revealed that alloxan-induced diabetes in rats caused significant increase in BGL and reduced the liver glycogen contents. It also caused significant increase in the levels of total serum cholesterol and triglycerides accompanied by decrease in HDL. |
