Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate Amalgam, bonded Amalgam and Compomer as proximal restorations in primary teeth, in vitro, clinically and radiographically. Ninety carious primary molars in seventy-six children of both sexes with mean age 7.6±1.4 year, were included in the study. According to the restorative material used, the molars were divided randomly into three groups. The extent of microleakage were evaluated in vitro by examination of thirty restored Bovine teeth with three test material. The data obtained from the clinical assessment of all restorations were subjected to statistical analysis by chi-square-tests at a 0.05 level of significance. The ratings of each criteria were compared among each evaluation period between treatment groups. Statistical analysis revealed no significant difference among each evaluation period between groups in regard to color match, marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation, secondary caries, surface texture, anatomic form and retention. The microleakage evaluation showed no difference between amalgam and compomer while there was a significant difference between bonded amalgam and other restorative materials (depth of dye penetration).
