Abstract This work is a theoretical study in the coun:.:!e of improving the performance ofopticalfibers.Thefiberunderinvestigation is of a single - mode biquadratic -index type. Its quality of functioning is controlled by the fiber radiusaswell as two tailoring parameters fortheindex profile. Throughout this work, the main purpose is to adjust these parameters through calculations to achieve abetter fiber design forhighqualityperformance. Three subjects are investigated : (a)thefeasibilityofdarksolitontransmission andtheroleplayedbythementionedparametersinregulatingthegroupvelocityofthetransmittedpulseandtheassociatedopticalpowerb)theradialtemperaturedistributionwhich is proved to be almostconstantatsteady -stateconditionswhateverthevaluesofthefiberparametersndthelaunchingconditionsare ; and (c) theoptimumdesignfora double -coatedfibertoavoidexcessivemicrobending lossduetothermalbucklingwhentheprimaryandsecondarycoatingsare, respectively, chosentobemadeofsiliconandnylon. |
