Abstract
A computer network is a collection of computers connected together over a communication network for• the purpose of sharing resources and exchanging messages, files, ••• etc. Such a network will introduce d~ayS into the transmission of messages as they are switched in a store-and-forward fashion through the net. The two basic sources of delay are : the delay experienced by a message at the external nodes of a network when it requests service of a remote-time shared system ;and the delay introduced by the communications network in the transmission of that request for service or of the return transmission from the results of computation.The purpose of this thesis is to try to introduce the fair ”concept” to networks by changing the scheduling algorithm employed when there 1S nonuniform load distribution between hosts.Since networks are our main subject chapter 1 is intended to give an overview on their different types topologies architecture, communications schemes and performance measures and costs.
