Abstract

To evaluate the population fluctuation and seasonal abundance of peach fruit flies in six different centers in North Sinai during three successive years (2002-2004), started with evaluation of four types of traps (Jackson trap, Steiner trap which powered with Methyl Eugenol, Macphail trap baited with protein hydrolyzed and McPhail trap baited with di-ammonium phosphate. Results showed the effect of Jackson trap powered with methyl eugenol in attracting peach fruit flies. 638 traps were hung throughout the six districts in rate of 1Trap for each 25 Feddans (1 Feddan = 4200 m²). Traps were inspected biweekly, obtained flies were recorded. Numbers of flies were increasing during the fruiting season. Control methods of a national program for controlling fruit flies had a significant effect on the flies numbers and infestation level, where statistical analysis showed that there were no significant difference between climatic factors and the numbers of captured flies.
