Abstract Ten years of observations of longshore currents taken at ome stations distributed on both sides of ROSETTA mouth BURULLUS outlet and DAMIETTA mouth along the nile delta coast from 1982 to 1991 have been analyzed.A refraction program has been developed to predict the wave characteristics in deep water then at breaking along the Nile delta coast. The input data needed for the program are the wave data at the wave recorder places, the grid systems related nodes positions and water depths and the program control parameters. The results of currents and waves analysis were used to calibrate some theoretical formulae which predict the longshore current velocity at the mid-surface zone. The results also used to estimate the longshore transport rates at the three regions under study. These calculations were done on monthly seasonably and yearly basis. The values were compared with earlier studies. The work is presented in seven chapters. It was found that the predominant current direction at the stations under study is towards east expect on west side of ROSETTA mouth where the current is from North to South. |
