Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using the shared reading strategy on developing elementary school students’ emergent reading skills in English. A review of literature was carried out first following two lines of research. Then, three fieldwork instruments were designed and conducted subsequently: an emergent reading skills questionnaire, a diagnostic emergent reading test, and a reading interest . attitude questionnaire. Based on the findings of these instruments, a shared reading program was designed and implemented. Results of pre-post testing of the emergent reading test revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in favour of the experimental group. |
