Conclusion HCV related liver disease have great liability to develop disordered glucose homeostasis. Hyperinsulinemia and peripheral insulin resistance is one of the most important factors that underly pathogenesis of hepatogenic diabetes. Recommendations Its recommended to screen individuals presenting with recent onset of diabetes without evident predisposing factor for evidence of liver disease and for screening for virology (hepatotropic viruses). At the same time every patient with cirrhosis with HCV and HBV viral infection should be screened for glucose abnormalities. |
