The introduction comprises the thesis objective and thesis outline. It comprises also basic information about silicon and Neutron Transmutation Doping of silicon in nuclear reactors (NTD).
NTD is by far the most widely technique and nowadays in the production of electronic combined power electronics and control devices. Therefore, it is very useful to harness the nuclear facility ETRR-2 for the production of doped silicon by NTD technique. The management at the ETRR-2 is now on the brink of launching a wide spread program for the production of doped silicon in the research reactor ETRR-2 using the 6 inches ingots. Tackling of the 5 inches ingots in the production of doped silicon started some years ago during which experiences has been gained in NTD technologies. With the present trend 6 inches ingots are to be used in the production of doped silicon in the reactor, using the same facility used in the doping of the 5 inches silicon ingots at ETRR-2 research reactor.
